Our Work
We are Public Mediation. We work on complex societal challenges where collaboration is under pressure, interests conflict, or progress has stalled. We step in when parties need to move forward, but the dialogue requires support. In such situations, we act as an independent third party, taking responsibility for designing and mediating the process. We create space for different perspectives and work to bridge divides.
Our work takes place in the public domain. We operate both at the local community level and at the national level, including projects for ministries and agencies. The issues we address vary in scale and impact, ranging from social challenges in neighborhoods to strategic policy questions with national or international dimensions. These may involve practical disputes in public spaces, as well as broader societal tensions where public interests and governance responsibilities intersect. Many of these processes are characterized by public dissatisfaction, administrative pressure, or collaborations in which parties are highly interdependent. In such contexts, tensions can escalate and trust may come under strain. We approach these situations with care and composure, and with the ability to navigate uncertainty.
Public Mediation is firmly grounded in science. Research on conflict, collaboration, and public decision-making forms a solid foundation for our analyses and process designs. We work from the question at hand in a specific situation. This means that we do not start from a fixed format, but first focus on what is actually happening: the interests involved, the dependencies, and the governance context. Based on this, we discuss the process design and which interventions are needed.
